Romney Come Hyther! is a strong, sweet and aromatic pale ale, akin to an American Pale. It showcases locally-grown Cascade hops, generously supplied to us by Hythe Hops community hop garden.
For Come Hyther! we added de-hydrated Hythe-grown Cascade immediately off the boil to help limit any hop bitterness and then added even more of the dried hops after cooling down the hot wort to 75 degrees C. This method maximises all the fruity hop aromas that the concentrated hop flowers have to offer and avoids masking them with a bitter hop finish.
UK Cascade has a smoother, more delicate flavour than the US Cascade we use for our Romney Amber Ale, but still leaves distinct, rounded, citrus fruit notes on the palate. On first tasting this flavoursome brew, we noted orange, grapefruit and floral characteristics. And despite the higher ABV (4.7%) it makes for very easy drinking.

Hythe Hops community hop garden is part of the national Grow Beer movement, a voluntary, non-profit group; their members grow hops in their back gardens, allotments, gardens, community gardens and also public spaces.
Hops are easy to grow and don’t need a lot of space. Each plant requires 1 square metre of clear space and a support structure (much like growing a runner bean). It dies back in the winter and grows back each spring.
Hythe Hops provides a pack for growers with everything you need to get going along with growing guides and advice. They coordinate through social media to help with what to do when and how to look after your hop.
They give their harvest away! Some find this this surprising – they give their precious hops to local craft brewers to use. They do get some free beer back though! (Usually, a pint from each per member).
Hythe Hops has a great community of people with members in Hythe, Sandgate, Folkestone, Hawkinge, Ashford, and across Romney Marsh.
